What is a salt room?
A salt room is a room that emulates an authentic European salt mine, including all the therapeutic benefits that come with it in the form of salt therapy, known as halotherapy.
Typically, a salt room is encased entirely in Himalayan salt bricks and boulders. Ambient backlighting illuminate the salt brick walls, and a stalactite cave-like ceiling is embedded with fibre-optic lighting.
Salt room floors are usually covered in a layer of large grain Himalayan salt crystals. A hidden sound system provides calming background music.
The primary function of the salt room is the atmosphere — from which the therapeutic benefits are derived, which is comprised of medical grade salt aerosol produced by a hidden device called a halogenerator.
Additional items can include a salt fireplace, salt water cascade, and skylight, among others.
What does a salt room do?
A salt room provides the therapeutic benefits of halotherapy to it’s patrons. To enjoy the benefits of halotherapy, a patron typically relaxes in a zero gravity chair for a period of 30 – 60 minutes. Halotherapy sessions are booked in advance with the Salt Cave staff.

Is it safe to inhale Himalayan salt?
Inhaling Himalayan salt was accidentally discovered and practiced in the early 19th century, when a Polish physician named Feliks Bocszkowski observed that salt cave miners had significantly fewer respiratory ailments, and looked much younger for their age, than coal or metal miners.
The credit was given to Himalayan salt, as it was believed that these benefits were the result of breathing in the salt rich air present in the salt mines.
Soon thereafter, visiting salt mines became a regular pastime in Europe for many people who were looking to improve their health and well being.

Are salt rooms safe for all ages?
Hi Marie,
Clinical trials have shown positive benefits of halotherapy for all ages, young and old alike. See: https://selectsalt.com/halotherapy/is-salt-therapy-safe-for-children/ and https://selectsalt.com/halotherapy/clinical-trials-proving-the-efficacy-of-salt-therapy/
I made a quick visit to a salt cave/ spa yesterday, mainly out of curiosity. As soon as the attendant showed me the salt cave, I felt my sinuses begin to drain! Congestion and sinus infections have been a lifelong problem for me. And – I wasn’t even in the salt cave – only stood at the door for a few minutes but was obviously inhaling some of the air. I definitely plan to return for regular sessions.
Glad to hear your positive experience with salt therapy Cali! Thanks for the testimony. You’re welcome to come back after a few sessions, and relay your progress.
