Expand Your Business by Adding a Salt Cave
Whether you operate a salon or spa, you can easily expand your business to include Salt Therapy, also known as Halotherapy.
Halotherapy is the practice of relaxing in a Himalayan salt cave while breathing in micronized salt particles, which is known to provide profound health benefits.
The practice is still relatively new to North America. While there are a few standalone Halotherapy salt caves around Canada and the United States, many spa owners are now adding halotherapy to their existing business as an additional part of their health services.

Indeed, halotherapy can be a cost-effective and lucrative addition to any business offering holistic health services.
Requirements for a Salt Cave
Adding salt therapy to your practice is relatively simple. Almost any closed room can be converted to a salt room. There are some basic requirements though: the room needs a fixed ceiling, there should be adequate ventilation and proper placement of the halogenerator.
If you have a room to spare in your existing establishment — you can convert it into a salt cave.
Is it Worth it?

The fee you can charge per session can range from $15 to $60, based on the size of your space and the number of clients you can handle. Sessions can last 30, 45, or 60 minutes. It can also make a great add-on for before or after a massage, or as part of a special package paired with other services.
Most clients report breaking even on their initial investment within a year of opening their new salt cave.
It’s also important to have an idea of your return on investment for building a salt cave. In this article, we give some examples of the ROI for a salt therapy business and the potential revenue it can generate.
Will it Damage My Existing Space?

Simply put, when we build a salt cave, nothing that we build is attached to your existing space (walls or ceiling), and each component can be easily removed. We build all the components of your salt cave onto a load-bearing frame which resides over your existing wall. The stalactite ceiling is also on a separate frame.
So our salt cave build-out will work for your needs whether you own or rent your space.
Salt Room vs. Salt Cave
Illuminated brick pillarBoth are functionally the same, but only cosmetically different.
A salt room offers a sleek, modern design, and is an ideal option for smaller rooms of less than 200 square feet. Smooth Himalayan salt bricks and tiles line the walls with natural ambient backlighting, and the ceiling can incorporate an illuminated sleek wood and salt tile mix.
A salt cave is generally a larger room (200 square feet and up), and is capable of accommodating large Himalayan salt boulders on the walls, and rustic wooden beams throughout. A rustic natural finish on the salt bricks line the walls and pillars. The ceiling emulates real European salt mines and is made with a natural stalactite finish embedded with fibre-optic lighting throughout. Walls and pillars incorporate intermittent backlighting.
Designing Your Salt Cave
The fireplace with chimney stack add-on is a brilliant eye-catching center piece for any salt roomDepending on your needs, personal preference, and the shape of your room, your salt cave can be customized to your liking.
Some features in our build-out include:
- Customized Salt Walls — these can be made with flat or natural Himalayan salt bricks or tiles of various sizes, or Himalayan salt boulders; with fully customizable backlighting options.
- Wooden frame/cross beams
- Illuminated brick pillars
- Himalayan Cone Light
- Illuminated corner pillars
- Illuminated salt brick pathway
We finish most floors with a 2-3 inch layer of granulated salt crystals, but we can also make the floor, or a portion of it, out of salt bricks (allowing for wheelchair accessibility), at no extra cost.
The salt water cascade is one of the most popular add-ons. As the salt brine trickles over the rocks creating the sound of a natural water stream, a fine salt mist is released into into the atmosphere further enhancing any salt cave or room.Other features that you can add include:
- Water cascade (aka waterfall)
- Skylight
- Salt fireplace with chimney stack
- Salt bench
- Salt reception desk
- Children’s saltbox
We only use authentic Himalayan salt, sourced from the Khewra Salt Mine at the base of the Himalayan mountains. We pride ourselves on the highest standard of workmanship and take no shortcuts, like the use of foam or papier-mâché, anywhere in our salt caves or rooms.
